AIR QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PROJECTS

Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Projects

Here are a few recent projects that involved air dispersion analysis, air quality regulatory compliance evaluation, and risk assessment.

Health Risk Assessment Pilot Program - This project involves the performance of air toxics health risk assessments (HRAs) under a pilot program developed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).  The pilot program implements State of California requirements related to characterizing and reducing exposure to toxic air contaminants.  HRAs are being performed for facilities located within the District's area of jurisdiction, which includes Los Angeles and Orange Counties, as well as parts of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.  (Resource Catalyst, also of San Diego, is a subcontractor.)

Accident Analysis and Emergency Planning Support - This project included the characterization of off-site consequences associated with chlorine release scenarios at three water treatment facilities operated by the City of San Diego, and other support to emergency planning efforts at these facilities.

Air Quality Technical Analysis for Environmental Restoration and Waste Management Programs at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory - This multi-year project included a series of air quality assessments in support of three separate  Environmental Impact Statements. Responsibilities included performing or coordinating all criteria and hazardous air pollutant evaluations, including emissions estimation, atmospheric dispersion modeling, regulatory interface and regulatory compliance evaluations. Assessments involved over 300 sources distributed over an area of several hundred square kilometers, ranging from small engines and storage tanks to a coal-fired steam generating plant, numerous large industrial boilers, and several hazardous and radioactive waste thermal and non-thermal treatment projects.
