Try hitting "reload" on your browser. Most web browsers keep pages and graphics in "cache" on your computer's hard drive so when you revisit pages they load quickly and gracefully using the images in cache. This helps a lot when you're surfing the web at 14.4kbps or 28.8kbps and you visit quite a few graphics laden sites.
However, sometimes caching gets in the way when you want to see changes you just made on your site or you revisit your site to get the latest hit count. The browser pulls the hitcounter graphic from cache the way it went in - the same number. If you don't see a change you just made on your site, or your hit counter doesn't seem to be incrementing, hit your browser's "reload" button.
