How do I add a user
to my virtual server?

Telnet to your Sphynx Server.

Note: Sphynx Server 2 complete virtual server only.

Open a telnet session to your server's root directory. Here is an example session. The portions in bold are what you would enter:

server: {2} % vadduser

Email/FTP User Names are up to 8 characters and consist of upper or lower
case alphabetic characters or digits.  They must start with an
alphabetic character and should generally be all lower case.

Email/FTP User Name: username

Now, enter a password for this user's Email/FTP account.  For security
reasons you may want to use a password that is longer than 6 characters
and that has at least one non alphabetic character.  The password will
*not* be echoed to the screen and you will be required to type it twice.

Email/FTP password: {password}
Retype Email/FTP password: {password}

Now, enter the Email/FTP User's full name.  Please use less than 80 characters
and no ':' characters.

Full Name: John Doe

Do you want this user to have FTP access to your virtual server (assuming
that you have the FTP service with your account)?  Please answer yes or no.
If you are planning to add the FTP service to your account later and want this
user to have FTP access you can answer "yes" now.

FTP, yes or no: y


You have three choices on where to put this user's "home directory":

        (1) /usr/home/username
        (2) /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/username
        (3) /ftp/pub/username

Pick 2 if you want this user to be able to upload his or her own web pages.
the URL would be something like http://www.yourcompany.com/username/)
Pick 3 if you want this user to be able to upload files to your anonymous FTP
archive (ftp://ftp.yourcompany.com/username/).
Otherwise, pick 1.

 Home directory option, 1, 2, or 3: 2

Email/ftp User added successfully.
